AMHERST, Mass.— Steven Iacobellis and Shane Walsh scored in the third period to lead the University of Massachusetts men’s team to a 3-2 win over Maine in a nonconference game between Hockey East opponents at Mullins Arena.

The Black Bears (6-14-1) went ahead 2-1 on a short-handed goal by Conor Riley that came just over four minutes after Walsh tied the score with the Minutemen (6-14) down a skater.

Iacobellis tied it at 2 with 9:33 left in the third period. Walsh got the winner, his fifth of the season, on a feed from Iacobellis with just under three minutes left.

Maine scored 4:22 into the second period after killing off a power play.

UMass goalie Henry Dill saved a shot by defenseman Eric Schurhamer, but Dan Renouf collected the rebound and fired it home for his second goal of the season. Cam Brown notched his 11th assist on the play.

Sean Romeo made 19 saves for Maine. Dill turned aside 35 shots for the Minutemen.

Both teams were 0 of 3 on the power play.
