AUGUSTA – Republican Gov. Paul LePage has unveiled a more than $2 billion plan to improve Maine’s roads and bridges.
The governor joined Maine Department of Transportation officials Monday to release the improvement plan for 2015 through 2017.
It outlines more than 500 capital projects totaling nearly $500 million that will be funded this year, including replacement or rehabilitation of 47 bridges, 76 highway projects and 94 other projects to fix things like ports and rails.
Among the projects that the state plans to fund over the next three years include the $11 million replacement of the Androscoggin River Bridge between Peru and Mexico, $3 million worth of dredging work at the port of Searsport and the $5.9 million replacement of the Somesville Bridge between Biddeford and Saco.
