In his Jan. 15 column (“Demonstrations in Maine, D.C. protest killing the innocent”), M.D. Harmon states that “abortion is still a profit center for Planned Parenthood,” a notion that is held by many who oppose abortion.

When abortion procedures account for only 3 percent of the total services provided by Planned Parenthood, it is hard to imagine how that 3 percent could be a so-called “profit center” for Planned Parenthood.

Furthermore, Harmon should also take note that by law, no government funding is allowed to be spent for abortions. Planned Parenthood abides by that law.

Harmon’s military background, noted in the tagline on each column, makes one question the integrity and consistency of his concern for the “killing of nearly 1 million innocent people every year.”

Even if one believes that there is some need for protection of our nation’s safety, one must also take note of the many innocent lives that are considered merely “collateral damage” when we are in combat, protecting our country.

We may have a volunteer military, but we don’t have volunteer victims. Who listens to their voices? And who profits from the dollars paid for the production of the weapons used to kill?

Taxpayer dollars pay 100 percent for the killing of civilian victims of our military’s violence. No taxpayer dollars are used for the termination of pregnancies, whether by Planned Parenthood or any other abortion provider.
