NASHUA, N.H. — Sarah Assante scored 18 points with nine rebounds, six assists and two steals to lead the St. Joseph’s women’s basketball team to a 67-60 win over Rivier on Thursday.

The Monks improved to 14-5, 6-1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, while the Raiders moved to 8-11, 4-2.

St. Joseph’s trailed 16-10 in the first half before putting together a 13-2 run for a 23-18 lead with 2:16 left before halftime. Assante had seven points during the rally.

The Raiders tied it with five straight points, but a pair of free throws gave the Monks a 25-23 lead.

Morgan Cahill scored 12 points, Emily Kehoe had 11 points and Hayley Quirio had 10 points for the Monks.

SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. 66, NHTI 52: Alicia Hoyt scored 17 points, and Amira Jones and Katherine Cyr chipped in 14 apiece, as the Seawolves (15-7, 9-3 YSCC) defeated the Lynx (12-10, 6-3) at South Portland.

The Seawolves outscored NHTI 31-20 in the second half.

(1) SOUTH CAROLINA 58, (22) GEORGIA 35: Bianca Cuevas scored 16 points and the Gamecocks protected their undefeated record with a win at Georgia.

South Carolina (22-0, 10-0 Southeastern Conference) plays at No. 2 Connecticut on Monday night in a matchup of the nation’s top two teams.

Tiffany Mitchell had 14 points for the Gamecocks.

Georgia (17-6, 5-5) has lost three straight – all to Top 10 teams.

(4) NOTRE DAME 75, VIRGINIA 54: Brianna Turner had 26 points and 13 rebounds and the host Irish put the game away with a late 12-0 run.

The 6-foot–3 Turner repeatedly took advantage of her size as the Irish (22-2, 9-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) led comfortably for much of the game.

But the Cavaliers (15-8, 5-5) played Notre Dame even for most of the second half until the decisive run.

(5) MARYLAND 77, PENN STATE 62: Shatori Walker-Kimbrough scored 21 points, Brionna Jones had 11 rebounds and the Terrapins won on the road for their 14th consecutive victory.

Laurin Mincy added 11 points for Maryland.

Lindsey Spann scored 16 points to lead Penn State (5-18, 2-10 Big Ten).

Maryland (20-2, 11-0) shot 31 of 61 from the field and 4 of 14 from 3-point range.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 92, NHTI 63: Carlos Gonzalez scored 31 points and Thyheem Simon had 18 points as the Seawolves (18-2, 12-0 YSCC) routed the Lynx (14-12, 5-4) at South Portland.

Gonzalez made 13 of 24 field goals and was 5 for 6 from the foul line.

Gonzalez and Atencio Martin, who had 10 points, each had 13 rebounds for the Seawolves.

FOOTBALL

ILLINOIS: Assistant Coach Mike Bellamy will sit out one game next season after the NCAA ruled that he improperly helped a recruit get an associate’s degree.
