Heavy snow has forced the cancellation of the Maine Pond Hockey Classic that had been scheduled Friday through Sunday at Sidney Pond.

While tournament volunteers were up for the challenge of clearing all 10 rinks, the ice showed signs of cracking under the weight of snow.

“This decision was not taken lightly; the safety of players, volunteers, and spectators is our number one priority,” said organizers, adding they’re already looking forward to hosting next year’s event.
