A Yarmouth man was arrested on a charge of possession of child pornography after state police seized his computer Thursday and found dozens of sexually explicit images of children under the age of 12.

Stefan Shaft, 23, was arrested by members of the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit at his home at 30 Glen Road, where he lives with his mother and grandmother, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Shaft, who is unemployed, was taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland after his arrest, McCausland said in a written statement.

None of the children in the images is believed to be from Maine, McCausland said.

If convicted, Shaft will face as much as five years in prison.
