SOUTH PORTLAND — A house fire on Ocean View Avenue was brought quickly under control Saturday afternoon.

At least eight South Portland Fire Department vehicles responded shortly after 4 p.m., including a hazardous materials truck. Police also blocked the street off at the intersection of Pillsbury Street, though the parked firetrucks made the street impassable.

The fire was in a small bungalow at 61 Ocean View Ave., near Bellevue Avenue, not far from Willard Square. Firefighters told neighbors around 5:15 p.m. that they had brought the fire under control. But a few trucks remained at 5:30 p.m.

Firefighters said no one was home and no one was hurt. The fire seemed confined to the interior of the home and was not visible to most of the nearby neighbors.

When asked by neighbors why so many trucks responded, one firefighter said, “When it’s a real fire, we bring everything out.”
