Portland police are investigating a pair of robberies that have similarities and may be connected.

On Wednesday night, a 25-year-old Portland woman was walking near 148 Clark St. at 11:40 p.m. when a man came up behind her, displayed a gun and grabbed her purse, police said.

The man was described as 5 feet 11 inches tall with a slight build, dark skin, and wearing black clothing, including a jacket, and a scarf. The man was last seen running down Clark Street, police said.

The robbery was similar to one that happened at 11 p.m. Friday. A 56-year-old Falmouth woman was walking with another woman on Congress Street near Lincoln Park when a man grabbed her purse and threatened her with a gun. The woman struggled briefly until she realized the man had a gun, police said.

The man ran away and was seen getting into an older four-door Mercedes-Benz.

The woman described her attacker as between 5 feet 7 inches and 6 feet tall, with a dark complexion and scruffy facial hair.
