A Biddeford man indicted on charges he killed his mother by running over her with his pickup pleaded not guilty in York County Superior Court on Thursday to charges of manslaughter, reckless conduct and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Shane Jones, 26, was arrested by Biddeford police about a week after striking his mother with his truck on Nov. 23. He has been held at York County Jail in Alfred on $50,000 bail, which remained unchanged after Thursday’s arraignment, according to the York County District Attorney’s Office.

Jones is accused of killing his mother minutes after she argued with him about money and followed him and his girlfriend out of the family’s home at 6 Brackett St. in Biddeford. His mother, 49-year-old Kimberly Jones, stood at the passenger window of the vehicle as her son backed it out of the driveway, according to a court affidavit.

Jones’ sister, Shawna, who also lives at the house, told police she heard a “thud” and saw her mother lying facedown in the driveway after her brother sped away in the truck toward Graham Street, court papers say.

If convicted, Jones faces up to 30 years in prison on the manslaughter charge and up to five years in prison on each of the other charges.
