BANGOR – A Maine judge is considering a motion to allow defense attorneys to name an alternative suspect in the case of a man who is accused of using Facebook to lure a teenager to her death.

The trial of 21-year-old Kyle Dube of Orono is expected to begin Feb. 23 in Bangor and last two weeks.

Superior Court Justice Ann Murray is expected to rule before then on whether to allow the alternative suspect. Defense attorneys want to name Dube’s former girlfriend.

A jury was chosen on Thursday. Dube is accused of using a fake Facebook profile to set up a meeting with 15-year-old Nichole Cable of Glenburn, then killing her in May 2013.

He pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping and murder in 2013.
