Sam Rouda scored the only goal early in the second period Saturday as Yarmouth (9-7-1) earned a 1-0 boys’ hockey win over Gorham (11-4-2) at USM Ice Arena.

Connor Lainey had an assist.

Winning goalie Nick Allen stopped all 17 shots while Gorham’s Noah Bird warded off 21 of 22 pucks.

SCARBOROUGH 3, THORNTON 1: Cam Nigro slipped home his own rebound to give the Red Storm (10-4-3) a 2-1 lead over Thornton (2-14) four minutes into the third period in Saco.

Jack Callahan added an insurance goal with 3:47 left.

Colin Hayward’s goal gave Scarborough a 1-0 lead in the first, but Owen Elliott tied the game for the Trojans late in the second period.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Augusta-born Julia Clukey placed 17th in the women’s competition in Latvia, posting a time of 1:25.378 in her two runs, while former Falmouth resident Emily Sweeney did not qualify for a second run after an initial 42.909 that had her in 22nd place.
