Winter weather has cloaked Maine in a color palette of gray and white, and a seasonal snowfall total measuring more than 85 inches has entrenched the cityscape in monochromatic shades. To combat this lack of color, some in Portland have made intentional choices to get a reprieve from winter. “I gravitate even more towards bright colors, especially now, to brighten up all of this grayness,” said Abbeth Russell, a Portland resident with brightly dyed orange hair. Although white and gray will likely stay the dominant shades for the next couple of weeks as the snow melts into spring, bright colors are still to be found in the people of Portland, in their choices of accessories, clothing and hair.
