DUDLEY, Mass. — Jean-Luc Parker hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the eighth-seeded University of New England to a surprising 50-49 win over top-seeded Nichols College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference men’s basketball quarterfinal on Tuesday night.

Making their first tournament appearance since 2010, the Nor’easters (8-18) shot 56.5 percent in the first half and took a a 29-23 advantage. They led by as many as 10 in the second half.

The Bison (20-6) charged back, scoring eight straight points and taking a 47-45 lead on Gustave Koumare’s layup with 2:30 to go.

Parker made a layup with 27 seconds left. Sebago’s Matt Langadas gave Nichols another lead on a jumper with 2 seconds left before Parker hit the winner.

Parker finished with 15 points and Devin Thompson 17 for the Nor’easters, who lost twice to the Bison in the regular season, including 100-46 in January.

UNE next faces No. 4 Wentworth on Thursday in Boston.

EASTERN CONNECTICUT 80, USM 39: Hugh Lindo had 18 points and 11 rebounds as the No. 1 Warriors (22-4) blew past the eighth-seeded Huskies (5-21) at Willimantic, Connecticut.

Eastern Connecticut State held Southern Maine to 26.5 percent from the floor and only Jacob Littlefield scored in double figures for the Huskies with 13.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

UNE 79, WENTWORTH 45: Alanna Vose made six 3-pointers and scored 24 points as the top-seeded Nor’easters (21-5) rolled past the No. 8 Leopards (7-19) at Biddeford to advance to the Commonwealth Coast semifinals.

Alicia Brown added 16 points and nine boards for UNE. Sadie DiPierro had 15 points and eight rebounds, and Kelly Coleman 13 points and eight boards.

UNE will host No. 4 Western New England on Thursday.

JOHNSON & WALES 70, ST. JOSEPH’S 62: Ashley Thompson had 19 points for the third-seeded Wildcats (17-9) in a GNAC quarterfinal victory over the No. 6 Monks (16-10) at Providence, Rhode Island.

St. Joseph’s faced a 37-28 halftime deficit but cut it to 50-49 midway through the second half before Johnson & Wales took control with a 12-4 run.

Morgan Cahill had 29 points and six boards for St. Joseph’s.

KEENE STATE 63, USM 46: Christan Wojtas and Kelsey Cognetta combined for 34 points as the fourth-seeded Owls (17-9) defeated the fifth-seeded Huskies (12-14) in a Little East Conference tournament quarterfinal at Keene, New Hampshire.

Ella Ramonas had 11 points and seven boards for Southern Maine, which shot 32 percent.
