The McDonald’s restaurant on Route 1 in Yarmouth closed Tuesday afternoon, according to an announcement posted on a door by its owners, Ron and Cyndi Lydick.

The fast food restaurant had operated at that location for almost 18 years. It was part of the Route 1 Shoppers Village complex that includes a Hannaford supermarket.

“We are not renewing our lease and have not been able to find a location to rebuild our restaurant with a drive-through,” the Lydicks said in their message to customers.

The restaurant was walk-in only and did not have a drive-thru window.

The Lydicks said their Yarmouth employees were offered positions at their other McDonald’s restaurants in Freeport and Gray.

Correction: This story was updated at 11:32 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25 to clarify that employees were offered positions at other McDonald’s restaurants.
