A call for mutual aid in Woolwich was canceled Tuesday night after it became clear to firefighters that there was no way they could reach the home because the driveway leading to it had not been plowed.

A dispatcher for the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office said a home at the end of Hedge Bridge Road was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived in the area, shortly after 9 p.m. The road had been plowed, but not the driveway.

A plow truck was called in to plow the driveway, and firefighters used snowmobiles to reach the home, according to the dispatcher. The home’s owner, who escaped, notified authorities. No injuries were reported.

Hedge Bridge Road is in north Woolwich off Route 127, also known as Middle Road.
