A three-month investigation by the York County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the arrest of a Lyman man on charges he sexually abused a young girl.

The investigation into the incident, which allegedly took place in November, was led by Deputy Sheriff Jason Solomon, the school resource officer for Regional School Unit 57 in Waterboro. The district serves students from Alfred, Limerick, Lyman, Newfield, Shapleigh and Waterboro. Students attend Massabesic High School.

Sheriff William King Jr., in a new release Thursday, said Solomon received information that 21-year-old Derik McLeod of Lyman had contacted a minor via Facebook and invited her on a date. Once McLeod isolated the victim, he allegedly compelled her to perform a sexual act on him.

McLeod was arrested Monday, but was released from York County Jail after posting $2,000 cash bail. A condition of his release was to not have contact with any girl under the age of 18.
