LEWISTON — The Italian owners of a Lewiston facility that makes high-tech storage, picking and distribution systems plan to invest $6 million in the plant, which could lead to dozens of new jobs.

A spokesman for Modula, owner of the System Logistics plant, said the investment signals a long-term commitment to the area and comes as the company has seen a steady growth in orders. The investment and upgrade could lead to 70 new jobs.

The facility currently employs 50 people and runs one shift.

The Sun Journal reports that new equipment will start to arrive this month and will be housed in the current building, which has the room.

The company says the decision to expand in Maine was based on the existing workforce and the potential.
