A former Wells resident who is in police custody in Las Vegas is now being sought by Portsmouth, New Hampshire, police in connection with an armed robbery Feb. 2 at the Market Basket grocery store at the Lafayette Plaza shopping center.

Portsmouth police Capt. Mike Schwartz said in a press release that an arrest warrant seeking the extradition of Gerald Bickford, 35, was issued Tuesday.

Bickford was arrested in Las Vegas on March 5, charged with robbing a bank in Boulder City, Nevada, and leading police on a high-speed chase. Schwartz said Bickford crashed a maroon Dodge Charger – the vehicle he allegedly used in the Market Basket robbery – in the Nevada chase.

Anyone with information concerning Bickford or the Market Basket robbery should contact Portsmouth Detective Joshn McCain at (603) 610-7513.
