Cape Elizabeth residents grabbed 600 available bibs in a little under nine minutes Thursday morning as registration for the 18th Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race got underway.

Online registration for the general public is scheduled to open at 7 a.m. Friday with a limit of 4,000 runners. Last year’s slots filled up in four minutes, 32 seconds.

Another 1,950 bibs will be distributed through a lottery beginning immediately after online registration closes and continuing through March 22. Runners may enter as an individual or as part of a team of up to six members. The race charges a non-refundable $5 fee to enter the lottery. Winning names will be drawn March 24 and posted on the race website.

Emily Faria, a senior cross-country runner at Cape Elizabeth High, was the first to complete her registration Thursday, in 63 seconds. It took 8 minutes and 53 seconds for all 600 spots to be claimed, a slower pace than last year’s record-setting 6 minutes, 38 seconds for town residents.

This year’s race is scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 1. The entry fee is $50.
