A man told Portland police that he was robbed Friday night on Congress Street.

Police said the man told them he was walking near 184 Congress St., near the base of Munjoy Hill, around 9 p.m. when he was approached by two black men, about 18 to 30 years old, wearing hooded sweatshirts.

One of the men hit him with a club, the man told police, and they took his wallet. An attempt to track the assailants using a police dog was unsuccessful, police said.

The man was taken to Maine Medical Center to treat what police said were minor head injuries.
