KRANJSKA GORA, Slovenia — Alexis Pinturault of France won a World Cup giant slalom Saturday, while Marcel Hirscher of Austria came second to take the season’s discipline title with a race to spare.

Pinturault extended his first-run lead to finish in a total time of 2 minutes, 19.78 seconds, 0.68 ahead of Hirscher. It was his ninth career win but first in GS since February 2013.

Pinturault’s compatriot Thomas Fanara came 0.94 back in third, while fourth-place Ted Ligety of the United States trailed by 1.88.

With only next week’s season-ending race in Meribel remaining, Hirscher holds an insurmountable 185-point lead over Pinturault in the GS rankings.

Hirscher also tops the overall standings.
