An Alfred woman suffered serious injuries when the pickup truck she was riding in collided with a tractor-trailer Sunday evening on Route 1 in Warren.

Tim Carroll, chief deputy of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, said Lauren Morrissette, 57, was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland after the crash which was reported around 5:20 p.m. Morrissette was listed in critical condition Monday night by a hospital spokeswoman.

The driver of the pickup truck, Cassandra Bean, 55, also of Alfred, was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta with non-life-threatening injuries.

Carroll said Bean lost control of the truck because of slippery road conditions. Bean’s truck crossed the centerline and hit the rear tires of the tractor-trailer, which was driven by Aaron Grindle, 48, of Waldoboro. Grindle was not hurt.

Both women, who were not wearing seat belts, were ejected from the 1987 Dodge pickup truck. Two dogs that were in the truck were thrown out. One dog died.

Speed and weather contributed to the crash, Carroll said. The crash remains under investigation.
