Mary Caron drove in three runs, scored twice and had an RBI single in the 13th inning when the University of Southern Maine softball team scored four times to beat SUNY-Geneseo 15-12 in Clermont, Florida in its second game of the day Sunday.

Southern Maine (5-2) lost to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Trailblazers (1-2) 2-0 earlier Sunday in Winter Garden, Florida.

In the second game, Ally Pillar scored on Caron’s single in the 13th inning as the Huskies scored four times to grab the win. Amanda Henrickson, Samantha Crosman and Taylor Lux also scored in the 13th for Southern Maine. Crosman drove in a run with a fielder’s choice, while Jen Lynch and Courtney Davis each had a sacrifice fly.

In the first game, Rachel Quackenbush struck out seven to earn the shutout for MCLA. Davis and Amber Kelly had two hits each for USM.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND SPLITS: Abby Lambert and Mollie Bartles each drove in a run during a three-run third inning as the the Nor’easters (2-2) overcame an early 2-1 deficit en route to a 5-3 victory over Hamilton (0-2) in Clermont, Florida.

The Nor’easters lost 6-4 to Washington & Jefferson (2-2) in an earlier game.

BASEBALL

WISCONSIN-STEVENS POINT 11, SOUTHERN MAINE 9: Cody Hanke hit an RBI single in the sixth inning to give the Pointers (3-2) the lead and they held on to beat the Huskies (5-2) in Lakeland, Florida.

Hanke’s single was part of a three-run rally in the top of the sixth for Wisconsin-Stevens Point after USM scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-7 lead.

Jimmy Coady and Brandon Kranz each added an RBI single in the inning.

Paul McDonough homered in the bottom of the sixth to bring the Huskies within one, but the Pointers added an insurance run in the eighth.

Southern Maine loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth on a double by Sam Dexter and walks to Matt Bender and Anthony Capuano. Pointers’ pitcher Mitch Beau ended the threat with a strikeout and a grounder.

The Huskies trailed 7-1 after a two-run home run by Hanke in the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Matt Bender hit a two-run double, Dexter had an RBI single and Jake Welch had a three-run homer as USM rallied to tie it, then took the lead when Damon Wallace tripled and scored on an error.

Dexter and McDonough led USM’s 14-hit attack. McDonough had a homer and two singles while Dexter had a double and two singles.

Bender had two doubles, and Capuano had a pair of singles for the Huskies.
