AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Sam Dexter and Paul McDonough combined for six hits and five RBI to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 16-1 victory against Worcester State in the second game of a nonconference baseball doubleheader Tuesday.

Worcester State won the opener, 8-4.

In the second game, Dexter went 4 for 4 with two RBI and two runs, and McDonough was 2 for 3 with three RBI and two runs.

Andrew Richards was the winning pitcher for the Huskies (6-3), going four scoreless innings in relief and allowing two hits with three strikeouts.

In the opener, USM opened a 2-0 lead before the Lancers (2-5) came back with six in the second.

McDonough went 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run, and Matt Bender added a pair of singles for USM.

SOFTBALL

USM LOSES TWICE: Taylor Lux was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI as Southern Maine fell 7-4 to Endicott (2-4) at Clermont, Florida.

The Gulls scored three unearned runs in the first inning but the Huskies answered with a pair in the third on an RBI single by Lux and an infield error.

Endicott tacked on a pair of unearned runs in the fourth before a double by Lux cut the deficit to 5-3.

Sam Dibella made it 7-3 with a two-run homer in the sixth.

Erika Millett of USM allowed seven runs on seven hits, striking out four.

Mary Caron went 3 for 4 with a homer and three RBI in the second game for USM (7-5), which lost to Worcester State (4-1), 7-6.

Courtney Davis went 2 for 4 for Southern Maine.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

COLBY 18, SOUTHERN MAINE 3: Sasha Fritts scored four goals as the Mules (5-1) rolled past the Huskies (0-5) in a nonconference game at Portland.

Colby held a 23-8 advantage in shots on goal while opening a 13-1 halftime lead.

Dana Swaffield had three goals for the Mules, Abby Hooper added two goals and an assist, and Abby Hatch a goal and three assists.

Any Nguyen led the Huskies with three goals.

Nia Kelly and Caley Presby of Southern Maine combined for 18 saves. Sarah Evans and Sam Burch of Colby combined for three.

BATES 10, ENDICOTT 7: The Bobcats (5-3) took an early 5-1 lead and held off the Gulls (2-2) in a nonconference game at Beverly, Massachusetts.

Ellie Clayman led Bates with four goals and an assist, Emma Brinkman had a pair of goals, and Kelan McCann contributed a goal and a pair of assists.

Hannah Jeffrey stopped 11 shots for the Bobcats. Maura Grady made seven saves for Endicott.

SUNY OSWEGO 19, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 9: Erannan Shattuck had five goals and three assists for the Lakers (3-3), who took command in the first half and defeated the Nor’easters (2-4) at Kissimmee, Florida.

Oswego outshot UNE 21-12 in the first half en route to a 15-5 lead.

Gina Newsome led the Nor’easters with three goals and an assist. Jessica Deedon, Brooke Kelleher and Nikki Smith each scored twice.

Courtney Kendall and Lauryn Huck of UNE combined for 13 saves.

BOWDOIN 14, ST. LAWRENCE 3: Emma Beecher scored four goals as the Polar Bears (6-0) handled the Saints (1-1) at Bradenton, Florida.

Bowdoin held St. Lawrence scoreless for the first 32:32 and limited it to five shots on goal in the first half.

Megan O’Connor had three goals and an assist for the Polar Bears, and Olivia Raisner and Taylor Wilson each scored twice.

Isabel Sippel and Kayli Weiss combined for eight saves for Bowdoin. Adden Cunningham and Cricket Wemyss combined to stop 14 shots for St. Lawrence.
