Saco police have arrested a Biddeford man on charges of elevated aggravated assault in connection with the March 14 stabbing of a 25-year-old man at 14 Winter St.

The man was wounded in his upper body and taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment.

On Monday, Saco Det. Jeffrey Cook and Biddeford police arrested Nicholas W. Birkemose, 27, of 193 Main St. in Biddeford. Police had identified him as a suspect early on, and arrested him at the Thatcher Hotel in Biddeford.

He was taken to York County Jail in Alfred, where he is being held on $2,500 bail pending a May 14 court date.
