BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick Police Department is investigating two incidents Wednesday which they believe could be related: a man who tried to lure a young girl to his car, and possibly the same man exposing himself to young girls.

Patrol Commander Marc Hagan, in a news release, said an 11-year-old girl was walking near Spring Street and the Harriet Beecher Stowe School around 1:30 p.m. when a man driving a white car drove slowly behind her and then pulled up next to her. The man tried to engage the girl in conversation before asking her to come closer to the vehicle.

The girl refused his request and returned home without incident. According to the elementary school’s website, Wednesday was an early-release day so students were dismissed at 1 p.m.

Hagan told WCSH-TV that police are also looking into a report that a man exposed himself to two girls, ages 10 and 11, at a town park. Police say that incident occurred a short time after the incident involving the car. Hagan said police believe the same individual was involved in both incidents.

“The incident (possible abduction attempt) raises obvious concern in the community and the Brunswick Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the interaction, or has any other information on this incident, to contact police at 725-5521,” Hagan said in a statement.

The suspect in both case is described as a white man in his 20s or 30s with curly blonde hair and a beard. His vehicle is white, but police were unable to specify the make and model.
