It’s clear that the liberal editors of the Portland Press Herald didn’t learn much from the results of the November elections.

Despite throwing away any semblance of objective journalism and opting instead for political activism during Gov. LePage’s first term, they still took a political shellacking as LePage handily won re-election despite their efforts.

For most people, this would be a clear signal that, in fact, the majority in Maine don’t share their political views and don’t like the media trying to influence the outcome of elections in favor of their preferred candidate.

Yet the Press Herald continues to run negative stories almost daily concerning the governor, even lowering themselves to running two front-page stories March 20 and 21 concerning some offhand comment by LePage regarding whether Stephen King pays his fair share of taxes in Maine or not (“King howls at LePage’s hint that he ducks taxes”; “King presses Gov. LePage: ‘Man up and apologize’ “).

Not about to let this opportunity slide, they allowed King – a favored liberal – to respond on the front page.

And although this paper goes on an editorial rant whenever LePage uses words or phrases they find derisive or politically incorrect, comments from King such as LePage is “full of the stuff that makes the grass grow green” are printed without any concern of their being inappropriate. The typical liberal double standard.

In the bully pulpit that the Press Herald provided to King so he could demean LePage, he also states that “as a rich person, I pay 28 percent taxes. … Why don’t I pay 50 percent?”

You can, Mr. King. Simply have your team of tax lawyers eliminate your deductions until you’re paying the equivalent of 50 percent of your income in federal taxes. In other words, why don’t you quit talking about it, and man up and pay?
