A 35-year-old man was killed Wednesday while skiing on an expert trail at the Sunday River resort in Newry.
State Police say that Benjamin Taylor of Bethel was skiing with a friend on the Black Hole trail on Aurora Peak when he skied off the edge of the trail and collided with trees around 11 a.m.
Taylor was an employee of Sunday River but was was not working at the time of incident, say police.
Sunday River spokeswoman Sarah Devlin said that Taylor was wearing a helmet. Members of the ski patrol responded but the Taylor died on the property, Devlin said.
Devlin said she was unable to comment on the man’s level of skiing experience. Sunday River rates the Black Hole trail as a “double black diamond” trail, for experts only.
