PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — Shane Luke scored twice and Providence used a four-goal outburst in the second period to beat top-seeded Miami (Ohio) 7-5 in an East Regional semifinal Saturday night.

The Friars (23-13-2) built a 6-2 lead in the second period on goals by Steven McParland, Brian Pinho, Noel Acciari and Luke, then had to hang on in the third as Miami (25-14-1) scored three goals in the final nine minutes – all with its goalie pulled for an extra attacker. Providence finally clinched the victory with an empty-net goal with 6.3 seconds left.

Jon Gillies of South Portland finished with 29 saves for Providence, which will face Denver in the regional final Sunday.

DENVER 5, BOSTON COLLEGE 2: Grant Arnold scored twice and Trevor Moore had a goal and an assist to help Denver (24-13-2) beat Boston College (21-14-3) at Providence, Rhode Island.

Joey LaLeggia and Will Butcher also scored for the Pioneers.

Mike Matheson and Ryan Fitzgerald scored for Boston College.

Denver opened the scoring at 4:48 of the first period on LaLeggia’s sixth power-play goal of the season. Matheson tied it with 4:09 left, but Moore made it 2-1 with 6.9 seconds to go in the period Denver scored twice in a 59-second span of the third period. Will Butcher capitalized on a turnover at 8:05, and Arnold scored at 9:04.

Fitzgerald got a power-play goal for the Eagles with 5:09 left, before Arnold capped the scoring with an empty-net goal.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY 3, MINNESOTA-DULUTH 2: Evan Rodrigues scored with 2:24 left in the Northeast Regional final at Manchester, New Hampshire, sending the Terriers (27-7-5) to the Frozen Four.

Rodrigues had two goals and Matt Lane also scored for top-seeded BU, which is headed back to the Frozen Four for the first time since winning its fifth NCAA title in 2009. The Terriers won’t have far to go for their semifinal game April 9, just a few miles from campus at TD Garden.

Willie Raskob and Kyle Osterberg scored for the second-seeded Bulldogs (21-16-3).

UMD pulled its goalie for the final 1:40 but the extra skater was no help against Matt O’Connor, who finished with 27 saves and was swarmed by his teammates after the buzzer.

BU led 1-0 and 2-1 before Rodrigues put the Terriers up for good with a shot from the right circle that beat Bulldogs goalie Kasimir Kaskisuo, who also had 27 saves.

Raskob tied it at 1-all 37 seconds into the second period on a slap shot. The Terriers regained the lead on Lane’s goal with 16:28 left in the period off a behind-the-back pass from J.J. Piccinich from behind the net.

Osterberg tied it again with a long wrist shot that O’Connor nearly stopped. He batted the puck in the air, and it continued across the goal line as Jared Thomas swooped in for a potential rebound.

RIT 2, MINNESOTA STATE 1: Josh Mitchell broke a tie in the third period and Rochester Institute of Technology (20-14-5) beat top-seeded Minnesota State (29-8-3) in a Midwest Regional semifinal at South Bend, Indiana.

Jordan Ruby made 33 saves for RIT.

RIT’s Alexander Kuqali opened the scoring early in the first period. Minnesota State tied it on CJ Franklin’s goal midway through the second.

NEBRASKA-OMAHA 4, HARVARD 1: Ryan Massa made 33 saves and Nebraska-Omaha (19-12-6) beat Harvard (21-13-3) in a Midwest Regional semifinal.

Grant Gallo and Avery Peterson scored first-period goals for the Mavericks. Tyler Vesel and Jake Guentzel got empty-net goals in the final minute.

Harvard’s Jimmy Vesey scored his NCAA-leading 32nd goal early in the third.
