Well, it’s about time! I was happy to see diversity promoted in this week’s Scene & Heard section of the Maine Sunday Telegram (“Global designs, local diversity,” March 15).

I usually steer away from what I call “The White People Page” simply because of the preponderance of stories and photos that focus on mostly well-off white folks having benefit auctions and dinners to raise funds for multiple causes. The social worker in me bristles at this.

While benefits serve an honorable purpose and Maine is overwhelmingly white, the “social page” generally has not reflected the changing racial, cultural and ethnic demographics of the Portland area.

The more you focus on diversity, the more we may find understanding and acceptance of other cultures promoted around the state. Please continue to do this!
