Westbrook police are investigating a robbery that occurred Tuesday evening at the Shaw’s supermarket on Main Street.

Capt. Michael Nugent said a white man approached the supermarket’s customer service window around 6:30 p.m. and told the clerk that he had a gun. He then demanded that the clerk hand over the money in the cash drawer.

The clerk complied and the suspect left the store in a dark sedan – possibly a Mercury Milan or a Ford Fusion. No gun was displayed during the robbery.

The robber is described as 28 to 33 years old, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 2 inches tall, and weighing about 185 pounds. He had light, scruffy facial hair.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact the police department at 854-0644.
