State police arrested a 16-year-old boy Wednesday in connection with the murder of a 49-year-old man in the Waldo County town of Troy last month.

State police and Waldo County sheriff’s deputies had been investigating the stabbing death of Steve Hodgdon on March 7 at his home on Rutland Road. Hodgdon died of a stab wound to the chest, police said.

The teenager was arrested in Lewiston and taken to the Waldo County Jail. He is expected to make his first court appearance on the murder charge Thursday or Friday in Belfast.

Police did not release the boy’s name because of his age, though it will become public because of the seriousness of the charge.

The initial press release announcing Hodgdon’s death said he lived in the home with his teenage son.

The arrest came after several interviews and analysis of evidence at the state police crime lab in Augusta, and consultation between investigators, the state medical examiner and the Attorney General’s Office.
