FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — The New York Jets further bolstered their offense Wednesday by adding running back Stevan Ridley from the New England Patriots.

Ridley agreed to a one-year deal. He played in only six games last season before tearing his right ACL.

“He’s excited for the opportunity and his rehab is going strong at this point,” said Andy Simms, Ridley’s agent.

Ridley rushed for a career-high 1,263 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2012. He had 340 yards rushing last season before getting hurt.

New York, which has been busy in free agency under new coach Todd Bowles and general manager Mike Maccagnan, have Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell back at running back. The Jets didn’t pick up the option on Chris Johnson in the offseason.

The Jets traded for receiver Brandon Marshall and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, brought back cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie, and added cornerback Buster Skrine and safety Marcus Gilchrist in free agency.

The Jets re-signed veteran defensive lineman Leger Douzable to a one-year contract, and former Vikings linebacker Erin Henderson, who sat out last season after dealing with off-field issues.

COWBOYS: Dallas released defensive tackle Amobi Okoye, who was drafted by Houston as a teenager and hasn’t played since 2012 as he attempts to come back from a brain condition.

The former top-10 pick was cleared to practice last August after spending a year recovering from anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, which causes brain swelling. But Okoye, 27, never played for the Cowboys, spending last season on the non-football injury list.

The Texans took Okoye with the 10th overall pick in 2007 when he was 19, making him the youngest NFL draft choice since 1967. He spent four years with Houston and two with Chicago, where he last played in 2012.

DOLPHINS: Free agent wide receiver Wes Welker, 33, who played for Miami from 2004 to 2006, visited the team complex.

Welker was with Denver last year, and caught 49 passes for 464 yards and two scores.
