Two men are charged with breaking into two stores on Western Avenue in Manchester early Thursday after their car ran out of gas nearby.

James M. Derosier, 29, of Waterville and Jeffrey L. Marshall Jr., 29, of Albion were arrested and charged with two counts of burglary, theft, criminal mischief and violating conditions of release.

Detective Sgt. John Bourque of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office said the pair broke into The Pizza Stone and the nearby Circle K convenience store around 2:30 a.m. while “very drunk.”

Bourque said the men were riding in a vehicle that ran out of gas at the intersection of Pelton Hill Road and Western Avenue. He said the men left the car and walked to the pizza shop, where they used a rock to smash in the front door and then stole money from a register. Then, Bourque said, they walked to the convenience store, where they kicked in the door, allegedly to steal money and cigarettes.

A sheriff’s office deputy first went to check out the disabled vehicle, Bourque said, but went to the Circle K after a burglar alarm was reported.

A second deputy went to the car, where Bourque said Derosier and Marshall were arrested. The Pizza Stone burglary was discovered later on Thursday morning.

Bourque said the two men were held without bail on Thursday at the Kennebec County jail on probation violations.
