PORTLAND — A New Hampshire bookkeeper has been sentenced in Maine to a little over two years in prison for writing over $1 million in unauthorized checks to herself from two businesses.
Janis Woods of Conway pleaded guilty in October to interstate transportation of stolen checks and tax evasion.
Court documents say the 65-year-old Woods used her position for two businesses, Grover Gundrilling of Norway and VM Foods of Conway, New Hampshire, to issue herself the checks from 2007 to 2012.
During her sentencing in federal court on Thursday, Judge D. Brock Hornby noted that Woods has serious medical needs and that a lack of criminal history called for leniency. But her offense was serious because it lasted almost five years and inflicted over a million dollars’ worth of loss on her victims.
