Firefighters responded to an attic fire Tuesday morning at 16 Whale Watch Road in Harpswell that was sparked by a lightning strike.

Firefighters were called to the home at 7:15 a.m. after a caretaker heard the lightning strike and saw smoke coming from the eaves, said Orr’s & Bailey Islands Fire Chief Wayne Johnson.

Firefighters were able to get at the fire through a pull-down attic stairway. The fire damaged an attic room but did not spread to the rest of the house, he said. Firefighters were able to leave by 9:30 a.m., he said.
