SOUTH BERWICK — George Chaison-Lapine beat the throw home on Dominic Tocci’s bunt to ignite a four-run fifth inning Thursday that helped Portland to a 5-3 victory against Marshwood in an SMAA baseball opener.

The four-run inning gave Portland a 5-1 lead.

Dan Marzilli and Ryan Ruhlin combined on a two-hitter for the Bulldogs.

Zack Fortin had three of Portland’s 10 hits and Charles Barnard had two. Zach Hodges of Marshwood had a single and a double, the only extra-base hit of the game.

BUCKFIELD 12, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 9: Sidney Jackson had four hits and scored four runs to lead Buckfield (1-1) past the Panthers (0-1) at Yarmouth.

RICHMOND SWEEPS VINALHAVEN: The Bobcats opened with a pair of East-West Conference victories – the second game in five innings – at Richmond.

The scores were 10-5 and 12-0.

Meranda Martin picked up the win in the opener, and Sydney Tilton was the winning pitcher in the second game.

Also in the second game, Cassidy Harriman had a home run.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

BRUNSWICK 21, EDWARD LITTLE 1: Ryan Croatti scored four goals and Matt Brooks added three to lead the Dragons (2-0) past Edward Little (0-2) at Brunswick.

Croatti also assisted on a goal and Brooks set up three goals. Ethan Nadeau scored for the Red Eddies.

PORTLAND 12, NOBLE 2: Brady Green had four goals and an assist to lead the Bulldogs in an opener at North Berwick.

Sam Shaw added two goals and an assist, and Nate Martin also had two goals for Portland.
