A dispatcher for the University of Southern Maine Police Department who faces felony charges of theft and forgery turned himself in to authorities Wednesday.

The Gorham Police Department issued a press release identifying Alexander N. Pufhal, 40, of Sanford as the dispatcher who was arrested at the police department

As a dispatcher for USM’s police department, Pufhal also held the position of secretary/treasurer for a local labor bargaining unit. He allegedly diverted funds exceeding $13,000 for personal expenses from January 2014 to February 2015, according to Gorham police.

After his arrest, he was taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland. He is expected to appear in court next month.
