The state medical examiner will use tests to confirm the identity of a man whose body was found Tuesday in the woods near Cabela’s in Scarborough.

Police believe the man is from Standish and say he committed suicide there in 2013. They knew when died based on a receipt from Cabelas for the shotgun that was found with him, police said Thursday.

The man was not reported as missing, according to the department.

Police believe they know the man’s identity but want it confirmed by the medical examiner before releasing it publicly.
