Fifty workers are temporarily losing their jobs at Catalyst Paper in Rumford.

The company announced a coated paper-making machine, first shut down at the beginning of May, will remain shut down until August, resulting in the layoffs, WCSH-TV reported. The shutdown was blamed on market-related conditions.

Layoffs will be based on seniority, with the most recently hired to be laid off first, the Portland TV station reported.

Catalyst Paper Holdings, based in Richmond, British Columbia, bought Rumford Paper Co. and a second NewPage mill in Biron, Wisconsin, for $62.5 million in January.
