Even as a Patriots fan, I am not surprised that Tom Brady was suspended from the NFL. Indeed, he did deserve some type of punishment.

But to give him twice the length of the suspension that was given to admitted wife batterer Ray Rice last year even after indisputable video evidence was presented sets a precedent that the NFL cares more about the integrity of the game than about human health.

You only need to go back another year to find another example, where the courts threw out an agreed-about settlement to cover former players who were the subject of vicious head trauma. This was because the settlement was deemed to be much too low.

If the NFL wants to continue to thrive, then it needs to take the health and safety – not only of their current and former players, but also spouses, fans and anyone else who cares about the game – more seriously than a pound of air.
