Westbrook police have a person in custody following a robbery Friday morning at Art’s Variety at 158 Spring St. in which a man made off with cigarettes and cash.

Police say that at 9:34 a.m. a man entered the variety store and demanded cigarettes and cash. He did not show a gun, according to a press release from Capt. Michael Nugent. The man fled but police were able to get a description of him and his car. Within minutes, officers saw a car and driver matching the description, the release said.

Police arrested Shawn L. Boivin, 32, of Dragonfly Lane in Gorham on charges of robbery and theft.

Art’s Variety was robbed May 23 and also in December and police are investigating to determine whether there is a connection, Police Chief Janine Roberts said.

Nobody was injured in Friday’s robbery.
