WELLS — Wells police say two people were taken to the hospital Sunday morning after the driver of a car crossed the center line and hit two motorists traveling in the opposite direction.

Sgt. Chad Arrowsmith said the accident took place around 10:20 a.m. on Branch Road, near Chick Crossing Road in Wells.

Witnesses told police that a 2000 Saturn operated by 19-year-old Bailey Serpa of Nottingham, New Hampshire, was traveling east on Branch Road when it crossed the center line and hit a westbound 2008 Ford driven by 60-year-old Michael Austin of Kennebunkport.

The impact from that collision caused Serpa’s car to hit another vehicle in the westbound lane. Serpa’s car struck a 2013 Chevy operated by 45-year-old Crystal Cluff of Kennebunk.

Branch Road was shut down while rescue personnel extricated Serpa from the wreckage. He was taken by ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was listed in stable condition. Cluff was taken to Southern Maine Health Center in Biddeford where she was listed in stable condition. Austin was not hurt, police said.
