The death of an inmate from the Maine Correctional Center in Windham is not suspicious, police said Wednesday night.
“All indications are the death is from natural causes,” said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The state medical examiner was expected to do an autopsy on Harold Gleason of Aroostook County, but the results of the autopsy were not available Wednesday evening.
Scott K. Fish, director of special projects for the state Department of Corrections, said in a press release that Gleason, a 67-year-old Aroostook County resident, died around 9 p.m. Tuesday at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Gleason was serving a split 20-year sentence, with all but seven years suspended, for unlawful sexual contact and gross sexual assault.
Gleason, who was sentenced on Aug. 6, 2013, was scheduled for release on Nov. 18, 2018.
