Starting pitcher Joe Gunkel picked up his second victory at Hadlock Field on Saturday.

His first win came with Portland on May 21.

On Saturday, he beat the Sea Dogs.

Gunkel, traded Wednesday, threw six shutout innings to lead the Bowie Baysox to a 1-0 win over Portland before 6,677 at Hadlock Field.

Bowie scored a first-inning run on a walk and two singles against new Sea Dogs starter Heri Quevedo (0-1) and that was enough.

Gunkel held Portland to five hits and one hit batter. He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fourth, getting Aneury Tavarez to pop up to the third baseman.

Gunkel struck out three.

Gunkel, 23, was traded Wednesday to the Baltimore Orioles for outfielder Alejandro De Aza (who went 1 for 4 for the Red Sox on Saturday in Boston’s 4-2 win over Oakland).

An 18th-round draft pick in 2013, Gunkel was promoted to Portland last month from Class A Salem.

In three starts for Portland, Gunkel was 2-1 with a 3.93 ERA. When he was traded, he joined the Baysox in New Hampshire, only to return this weekend to face his old team.

Quevedo, 24, was making his Double-A debut. He pitched in Salem the past two years and began this season on the disabled list.

On Saturday, Quevdo pitched five innings, allowing four hits and one run. He struck out two and walked two.

Mike McCarthy relieved Quevedo and allowed two hits in three innings. He struck out one and didn’t walk a batter.

Pat Light came in for the ninth and dominated again, needing only five pitches (all strikes).

Light gave up three dribblers, none more than 30 feet. He fielded two of them and catcher Luis Martinez fielded the other.

Light, who hit 99.8 mph on the radar gun, has allowed one run in his last 16 games (0.52 ERA).

NOTES: Outfielder Blake Tekotte was placed on the disabled list and appears to be gone for the season with a fracture of his right kneecap. He suffered the injury when he fouled a ball off his knee Thursday. Tekotte, 28, was a minor league free agent this season, having played 50 games in the majors (Padres and White Sox). …. Outfielder/infielder Jonathan Roof was moved to Triple-A Pawtucket. … The Tekotte and Roof vacancies were filled by outfielder Cole Sturgeon from advanced Class A Salem, and infielder Hector Lorenzana from extended spring training. … Ticket-holders for Sunday’s game are invited to play catch in the Hadlock outfield from 10 to 11:15 a.m. … Major League Lacrosse player Greg Gurenlian will appear at Sunday’s game to throw out the first pitch and sign autographs.
