Each Thursday, mainly in the summer, I put together a forecast for the weekend. Do you ever feel like the part of your life that happens weekly seems to come around every other day? Maybe there’s now time change, like the changing climate. For me, decades ago time use to move slower and now due to some unknown variable time actually moves faster, but I digress. Let’s talk weather.

New England Maps
The maps you see below, for the most part, show nearly all of New England. I know many of you travel in the summer months, take vacations, head to camp or a friends cottage and this way you can get an idea of what the weather will be either if you are traveling or just staying at home. Remember, the mountains will always be cooler the higher you climb and typically the coastline is also cooler, especially over eastern Maine and Cape Cod.

Friday
After a very warm to hot Thursday with moderate to high humidity another warm, but less humid day is on tap for Friday. I expect many areas to again exceed 80 degrees, but it will be cooler along the coast, especially east of Rockland.

As humidity flows back into the area Friday night, clouds will increase and a line of showers pushes eastward. This line of showers represents the leading edge of cooler and eventually less humid air for Sunday.

Since the humidity will be climbing Friday night, temperatures will stay quite warm and it may be a bit tough for sleeping. It becomes difficult for our homes to cool off after warm days, especially if your house sits in the sun or if you don’t have air conditioning. These conditions allow the heat to just keep building.

Saturday
Think of Saturday as a transitional day. There is going to be an area of rain over the western areas of Northern New England during the pre-dawn hours. Notice the map for 2AM Saturday below.

This line will push south and then fall apart. By the time it reaches southern New England, between 8AM and 10AM it will just be a few scattered showers. Not much, if any help to the drought.

Here in southern Maine, the further north and west you are, the better chance you have of higher amounts of rain. The map below shows one models prediction for rainfall. I think this is a bit too high.

Skies will clear from north to south during the late morning and afternoon. While Saturday won’t be picture perfect, unless you have an early tee time or outdoor event in the morning, the risk of rain is really quite low.

Humidity will be high in the morning, but fall during the afternoon and Saturday night should become much more comfortable and the kind of night you’ll want to keep the windows open if you are able.

Sunday
This is my pick of the next three days. Bright sunshine, low humidity and comfortably warm air will make Flag Day 2014 a stellar one. Winds will also be light with a bit of a sea breeze in the afternoon.

There isn’t any chance of rain and with the most amount of daylight possible during the next couple of weeks; it’s nice to be able to enjoy so much of it.

High tide this weekend is a few hours before noon, meaning at noon the tide will already be going out again. Water temperatures are still chilly and with the dry air in place on Sunday it will feel very chilly when you come out of the water so have a towel close at hand.
