Massabesic High School held their graduation at 7 p.m. June 11 at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland. The following students rose to the top 10 percent for the class of 2015.

Wardwell, AlyssaALYSSA WARDWELL, valedictorian, is the daughter of Adam and Monica Wardwell, of Limerick.
She played for first team softball her freshmen year and played varsity softball her remaining three years. Alyssa was most improved player for softball and MVP and SMAA First Team All Star in her junior year. She was captain of her softball team as a senior. In addition, Alyssa played varsity soccer and was a member of the Velocity Soccer Club for four years. She received the MVP Award in her sophomore year and became captain of the soccer team in her senior year. She was also a player for the Velocity Soccer Club and received the Player’s Award in her freshmen year. She also played basketball for three years. She also volunteered for the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital for four years. She was class president her sophomore year, and student representative for the State Board of Education her junior and senior years.
Alyssa plans to attend the University of Maine to pursue a degree in chemical engineering. She hopes to research more renewable energy options.

Davis, ShayneSHAYNA DAVIS, salutatorian, is the daughter of Todd and Justine Davis, of Lyman.
She was vice president her class her freshmen year. She completed numerous Mission trips including two to Guatemala and one to Washington County. As a junior, she was accepted into the Upward Bound program. She was also a member of the Math Team and a student representative for the RSU 57 School Board. She was a member of the National Honor Society and served as president her senior year. Additional awards include the Dartmouth Book Award, Honored Student for AP Government and AP English Language. As a Senior, Shayna was chosen to receive the DAR Good Citizenship Award.
She will attend Clark University to major in international development and social change. She plans to pursue a career in civil right law.

Bryan, AlyssaALYSSA BRYAN, honor essayist, is the daughter of Gary and Joann Bryan of North Waterboro. During high school, Alyssa was an apprentice, an assistant teacher, and a company member with the Maine State Ballet, dancing in the Nutcracker and other performances throughout the years. She also participated in the Regional Fine Arts dance program for two years, a program in which Massabesic High School and other York County high schools participate. Academically, Alyssa has excelled, fulfilling graduation requirements in three years. This year, she became a member of the National Honor Society.
Alyssa will attend the University of New England, with a major in applied exercise science. She hopes to become a doctor of physical therapy.

Bantz, HaleyHALEY BANTZ, is the daughter of Darren and Kimberly Bantz of East Waterboro. She was on the varsity soccer team all four years of high school. In her freshmen year, Haley received the Most Improved Offense Award and became team captain in her senior year. She also participated in varsity track her senior year, both indoor and outdoor. She participated in state meets, placing 5th in the 400m and 6th in the high jump in her freshmen year, 4th in 400m and 7th in the high jump her sophomore year, 6th in 400m and 2nd in the High Jump her Junior year, and the Massabesic High School record for the 600m in her Senior year. She was on the SMAA All Academic Team for track maintaining High Honor Roll in her first three years and chosen as Captain for Outdoor Track as a senior. Haley also played freshmen basketball, and then junior varsity basketball for her sophomore and junior years. Her awards for basketball include the Coach’s Award as a freshmen and junior. In her junior year, she was a member of the Yearbook staff and in her Senior year she was on the National Honor Society and Student Athletic Leadership Council. She was also selected as Student of the Month for English as a senior. Haley enjoyed various missions trips with her church to Washington County and Guatemala. She will continue school at the University of Southern Maine to become an elementary teacher minoring in Spanish. She hopes to then pursue a master’s degree in leadership

Biener, MoniqueMONIQUE BIENER, is the daughter of Frank Biener, of South Berwick; and Tisuha Biener, of Lyman. She participated in track for four years and was named a member of the SMAA All Academic Team each year. Her senior year, she added participation in Culture Club. Monique plans to attend Southern New Hampshire University with a major in culinary arts. Her goal is to one day own her own restaurant.

Blackington, DylanDYLAN BLACKINGTON, is the son of Rusty and Melissa Blackington, of Lyman. He played soccer throughout high school, earning a position on the SMAA All Academic Team each year and earning MVP his senior year. During his freshmen and senior years, Dylan also played for the Premier Soccer team, and he has been a soccer referee for three years. His senior year, he volunteered for the local soccer program and participated in the Ski Bus program for four years. Dylan plans to attend the University of New Haven to study forensic science.

Boucher, CrystalCRYSTAL BOUCHER, is the daughter of Frank and Shirley Boucher, of Limerick. She is president of the York County 4H Beef Club and was vice-president her junior year. Over the years, she earned many trophies and awards for her work with 4-H. She was inducted into the National Honor Society her junior year and joined the Leos Club her senior year. Crystal plans to attend the University of Southern Maine to pursue a degree in accounting. She hopes to be the accountant for her father’s business. In the distant future, she plans earn her master’s degree and to open her own accounting firm.

Boucher, CourtneyCOURTNEY BOUCHER, is the daughter of Frank and Shirley Boucher, of Limerick. She has been a member of the York County 4H Beef Club for eleven years, serving as the treasurer this year. During her junior year, Courtney was inducted into the National Honor Society, and she joined the Leos club her senior year. She will attend the University of Maine, Orono, and will major in Animal and Veterinary Science. Her goal is to become a dairy cattle nutritionist.

Cryer, AshleyASHLEY CRYER, is the daughter of Jonathan Cryer, of Keene, New Hampshire and Kimberly Cryer, of Alfred. She participated in varsity swimming for four years. Ashley received the Top 16 Award for swim in the 400 free relay, and the 200 medley relay as a sophomore. She was MVP her junior year and also received the Top 16 Award for the 200 free relay and the 200 medley relay. In her senior year, she received the Kevin Broad Award and the Top 16 Award for the 200 medley relay and became team captain. Ashley was on high honors and honor roll and was also selected Student of the Month in her junior year. In her sophomore year, Ashley was an SMAA Student Athlete Summit Representative. As a junior, she attended the RYLA Conference. She was also recognized as a student leader and invited to attend a Red Claws game. Ashley was a member of the student council her sophomore year and became recognition chair as a junior and senior. She became a member of the National Honor Society in her junior year and was the treasurer in her senior year. Ashley will be attending Saint Anselm in the fall.

Descoteaux, CaseyCASEY DESCOTEAUX, is the son of Norman and Lisa Descoteaux, of East Waterboro. He participated on the swim team for his first three years of high school and was a member of the Boyscouts. He was the Den Chief for Cubscouts for all four years. Casey earned his Eagle Scout Award in his junior year. He was a member of the Concert and Jazz band and is also an active member of his church and youth group. He is currently employed by Hannaford in Buxton. Casey plans to attend Thomas college to study computer Science.

Domingo, KimberlyKIMBERLY DOMINGO, is the daughter of Gary and Edelmira Walker of East Waterboro. She maintained honor roll and high honors status throughout High School. Kimberly’s plans are to attend Susquehanna University in the fall with her major in Biochemistry. Her focus will be on Pre-Med.

 

 

Dunlap, AllisonALLISON DUNLAP, is the daughter of Kim and Julie Dunlap. She was a member of Jazz Band her freshmen year and also received her 10 year service pin for Girl Scouts. Allison was a Carlisle Academy Apprentice for all four years becoming and intern in her junior and senior years. She became a member of NJROTC and the Massabesic Police Cadets in her sophomore year and participated in the programs through her senior year. Allison was a member of the Golf Team in her sophomore year and added the Leo Club for the next three years becoming president in her senior year. She was also a member of the National Honor Society for two years and took part in the Science Olympiad earning the Bronze Medal for Scrambler. Her other awards include: Freshmen year, Student of the Month for January, Academic Achievement Award in French I, Honors Geometry, and Honors Geophysical Science; Sophomore year, NJROTC Cadet of the Month for January, Distinguished Cadet Award, MOAA JROTC Medal, and the Leo’s Club Lions Young Leaders in Service Gold Award; Junior year, NJROTC Operations Officer Varsity Drill Award, Surface Navy Association Stephen Decatur Award, Distinguished Cadet Award, Navy League of the US Theodore Roosevelt Youth Award, Lions Youth Recognition Award, and the Williams College Book Award, and her Senior year, NJROTC Executive Officer, Distinguished Cadet Award, Varsity Drill Award, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart National Leadership Award. Allison will be attending Husson University to major in physical therapy.

Gaetjens, RemingtonREMINGTON GAETJENS, is the son of Ray and Theresa Gaetjens, of Limerick. He was a member of the Cross County Team for all four years of high school. Remington was the Most Improved Runner for the first two years and received the Coach’s Award for the last two. He was a member of the All Academic Cross County Team from his sophomore year to his senior year. Remington also played basketball in his freshmen and sophomore years. He was Most Improved Player in his freshmen year. Remington was also on the All Academic Baseball Team during his sophomore year and organized a 5K run. He was the vice president of the sophomore class and became a member of the National Honor Society for his junior and senior years. Remington will be going on to Worcester Polytechnic Institute to study environmental engineering.

Geiger, MichalaMICHALA GEIGER, is the daughter of Eric Geiger, of Lyman. She participated in soccer for four years. In her sophomore year, she received an Award for Most Improved Player and in her Senior year she was the Defensive MVP. Michala also participated in Varsity Track for all four years at Massabesic High School. She will be attending Penn State University to major in veterinary science with a goal for a post graduate degree from a veterinary school.

Hall, JesseJESSE HALL, is the son of Troy Hall, of Waterboro; and Tami Nason, of North Waterboro. He played football and basketball for four years. Jesse also participated in track his sophomore year and became an Adaptive Phys Ed Leader for his junior and senior years. He received the Football and Basketball Coach’s Award in his senior year and was captain of the Football Team. He also was SMAA All Academic Team those two years. Jesse became a member of the National Honor Society in his junior year and continued his senior year. Jesse’s achievements include maintaining honor roll for four years and high honors for his last two. He plans to attend the University of New England in the Pre-Physical Therapy Program. Jesse’s goal is be a physical therapist for the Veteran’s Administration.

LaFrance, GarrettGARRETT LAFRANCE, is the son of Jim and Brenda LaFrance, of Alfred. He participated in basketball and baseball his freshmen year. Garrett continued with baseball into his sophomore year and then added and switched to swim team for the next three years. He also became a member of the student council and continued that through his senior year. In Garrett’s junior and senior years, he was a member of the Tennis Team, as well as a volunteer swim coach, and was inducted into the National Honor Society. He was the Swim Team Captain and SMAA All Academic Team. In his senior year, he became a member of the Student Athlete Leadership Council and initiated a Peer Mentor Program. Garrett was Most Improved Swimmer in his sophomore year, receiving the Coach’s Award for Swim and Honored Student athlete in his senior year. He also maintained honor roll and high honors throughout high school. Garrett will attend the University of Maine at Orono Honors College to study to become a nurse anesthetist.

Lantagne, DeidraDEIDRA LANTAGNE, is the daughter of Leonard and Paula Lantagne, of Shapleigh. She participated in soccer, lacrosse, and indoor track for her freshmen and sophomore years and in addition to coaching youth lacrosse. Deidra was the class president her freshmen, junior and senior years. She became a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, and Student Advisory Committee for her junior and senior years. As a junior, Deidra volunteered in the emergency room at Goodall Hospital. Her awards include the Stonehill College Book Award and the Maine Principals Association Student of the Year Award her senior year. Deidra has also clocked over 200 hours of community service during her four years of high school. She will be attending Providence College, majoring in biochemistry and minoring in Neuroscience. Deidra’s goal is to become a neurologist.

Lee, AndrewANDREW LEE, is the son of Gregory and Eileen Lee, of East Waterboro. He played baseball for his first three years of high school. For four years, he was involved in the Sacopee Valley Special Olympics as a basketball and track and field coach. He also participated in ski bus. Andrew was a member of the golf team for three years and served as captain for his junior and senior years. He was MVP in his junior year. He enjoyed the Regional Fine Arts program for Writing and was a member of the National Honor Society for his junior and senior years. Andrew received the Regis Book Award. He worked as a camp couselor for the Scarborough Parks and Rec Summer Camp program. Andrew plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono as a business major with the Dean’s Scholarship.

Lewis, EdwinEDWIN LEWIS, is the son of Edwin and Christine Lewis of West Newfield. He was a member of the Cross Country Team for three years. He participated in indoor track and outdoor track for his sophomore year and then continued with outdoor track in his junior year. As a senior, Edwin was a member of the Tennis Team and Math Team. He will be attending the University of Maine at Orono, with a Dean’s Scholarship to study chemical engineering.

John MelansonJOHN “JACK” MELANSON, is the son of John Melanson, of Waterboro; and Marie Melanson, of Old Orchard Beach. Throughout school, he participated in baseball, golf, basketball, indoor track and swimming. John was active in the Student Council for four years. He was the representative for the freshmen class, events coordinator in his sophomore year, vice president his junior year, and president for his senior year. In his freshmen year, John was “Manny the Mustang,” the school mascot. He also volunteered for the Trolley Museum and The Brother’s Food Shelter in Alfred. He continued his volunteer work with The Brothers in his sophomore year. He was also a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. As a junior, he participated in the Student Athlete Leadership Conference at Stonehill College. John went to S.A.L.T. Radio Broadcasting Camp in Portland. He was a guest DJ on HOT 104.7 and he was the MC for Massabesic’s Talent Show. He also became a member of the National Honor Society. John received the St. Michaels Book Award. In John(Jack)’s Senior year he became a journalist for the Waterboro Reporter, was a Student Advisory Council and Student Athlete Leadership Council Representative. He performed the duty of Morning Announcements for MHS, MC for MHS Pep Rallies, was the Host of MHS Tonight, and was the varsity sports announcer. He was chosen as Mr. MHS for 2015 and was an SMAA Southwestern Team Champion. John (Jack) will be attending Manhattan College studying communications with his focus on broadcasting/telecommunications and journalism. He would some day like to host the Tonight Show and become a news anchor.

Mongiat, AndrewANDREW MONGIAT, is the son of Steven and Sheila Mongiat, of Waterboro. For four years he was a member of the cross country and tennis teams. Andrew participated in basketball for three years. He became captain of the cross country team his junior year. In his sophomore year, Andrew joined Student Council and remained a member through his senior year. He attended the SMAA Sportsmanship Summit his freshmen year and the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) his senior year. For his junior and senior years, he became a Special Olympics basketball coach at Sacopee Valley and a member of the National Honor Society. He was also a member of the Student Athlete Leadership Council in his senior year. His awards are: All Academic all four years, Cross Country: Most Improved Freshmen and Sophomore years; State Champion and SMAA 2nd Team Sophomore year; Coaches Award and SMAA 1st Team Junior year; Coaches Award, and SMAA First Team. Andrew also received an award for Most Improved for Tennis in his Sophomore year and SMAA Citizenship Award his senior year. He was a volunteer for MMS Tennis Camp for three years and also volunteered for Basketball Camp. Andrew will go on to Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts running cross country on a scholarship. He will major in human services and rehabilitation services. His career goal is to become an occupational therapist.

Neyer, MeghanMEGHAN NEYER, is the daughter of Kevin and Daneane Neyer, of Limerick. She played varsity soccer, indoor track, and outdoor track for all four years. Meghan received the MIP Award for soccer and indoor track in her freshmen year. As a sophomore she received the Coach’s Award for Indoor Track and MIP Award for Outdoor Track. She also went on a Mission trip to Guatemala and was awarded the gift of appreciation. In Meghan’s junior year, her awards included MVP Defense in Soccer, MVP in Indoor Track, Girls State Representative, and National Honor Society member. As a senior, she was captain for all three sports. She also received the MIP Defense Award for Soccer, the Coach’s Award for Indoor Track, and continued with National Honor Society. Meghan also received the SMAA Leadership Award and was crowned Homecoming Queen. Through her last two years of high school Meghan also held two jobs. She will attend St. Joseph’s College and major in nursing. Meghan would like to become a pediatric nurse practitioner and make a difference in children’s lives.

Peabody, EthanETHAN PEABODY, is the son of Brian and Megan Peabody. For his first two years of high school, he was in the regional fine arts program for creative writing. Ethan also enjoyed the Ski Bus for all four years. In his junior year, he received an Academic Award for Astronomy and his senior year he was Student of the Month for December. He also enjoyed being a lab assistant for chemistry. In his free time, Ethan likes to write poetry. His plan to attend the University of Maine in Orono to obtain a chemical engineering degree.

Pike, KarlieKARLIE PIKE, is the daughter of Wayne and Diane Pike, of Shapleigh. She was a junior varsity soccer player for her freshmen and sophomore years. Karlie also played basketball for four years. She also played varsity soccer in her junior year. Karlie played varsity lacrosse for all four years and was a Filly Lacrosse Coach. She was Rookie of the Year for lacrosse, SMAA Team for basketball and lacrosse as a sophomore. In her junior year, her awards included SMAA Team for Soccer, Basketball, and LAX, US Lacrosse All Academic Team, and State Champs for Lacrosse 2014. Karlie also became a member of the National Honor Society for both her junior and senior years. As a senior, she was captain for her basketball and lacrosse teams and became a member of the Student Council. Karlie maintained high honors and honor roll also. She will attend the University of New England to become a nurse with her final plans to continue studying to become a nurse practitioner.

Robidoux, AudreyAUDREY ROBIDOUX, is the daughter of Leah Robidoux, of Waterboro. She completed her graduation requirements in three years. Audrey maintained honor roll for all three years. She was a member of the Portfolio Club in her freshmen year and the regional fine arts program for oil painting her last two years. She received the Distinguished Excellence Award in Art her sophomore year and the Lions Club Youth Recognition Award for Service in her senior year. Audrey’s volunteer activities include a children’s leader at church her freshmen and sophomore years, counselor at summer camp her freshmen year, dance leader at church in her sophomore year. She will be going to the Maine College of Art aspiring to become an art teacher or an art director.

Tulipano, DanielleDANIELLE TULIPANO, is the daughter of Mark and Marie, of Waterboro. She played basketball and lacrosse. Danielle was a member of the student council for three years. She also participated in the Ted Talks Conference in her sophomore year. Danielle was the Class Secretary in her junior year and was involved in the Leadership Meeting. She was also a member of the National Honor Society for two years. Danielle maintained honor roll for all four years and clocked over 100 hours of community service. She also worked for her last three years. Danielle plans to attend the University of Southern Maine pursuing a degree in psychology and neuroscience/ abnormal psych.
