Deacon Steven Cartwright will be ordained to the priesthood at 10 a.m. by Bishop Robert P. Deeley at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland. Cartwright, 35, a Boothbay Harbor native, graduated from John Bapst Memorial High School and attended St. John’s University in Jamaica, N.Y., and St. Bonaventure University in Olean, N.Y. In 1999 he entered the Basselin Scholars Program at Theological College at The Catholic University of America, earning a degree in philosophy in 2001. He was a competitive swimmer in college and was hired as an assistant swimming coach at Georgetown University, where in 2006 he was named head coach. In 2010, he decided to complete studies for the priesthood at Pope Saint John XXIII Seminary in Weston, Mass.

Centennial Celebration of the Upper Sanctuary, 10 a.m., with a procession led by Burundi drummers and a special Mass. The first Mass was celebrated at the church on July 4, 1915, and the church has since served as a house of worship for parishioners in the neighborhood as well as for those arriving from several African and Central American countries. The procession begins at Deering Oaks and continues up Mellen Street to the church, where a multilingual Mass in French, Spanish and English will be celebrated by the Rev. Michael J. Seavey at 10:30 a.m. A timeline and pictures telling the history of Sacred Heart Church will be on display at a reception following the Mass. All are welcome to attend the celebration.

The Marston’s Farewell Concert, 6:30 p.m., presented by First Fruits Ministry with Scott Anderson, Roger Buzby, Jessi McKinnon and others. Cincinnati Youth Orchestra, 7 p.m., concert including works by Bach, Britten and Vivaldi, as well as music highlighting American cultural history. Held at Woodfords Church, 202 Woodford St., Portland. Admission is free and a reception will follow the performance.
