Fire destroyed an unoccupied home on Garrett Avenue in Gray Tuesday evening.

The fire was called in at about 5:30 p.m. and within an hour, the house had burned to the ground.

Nobody was injured.

The owners had recently purchased the house and had been renovating, said Gray Fire Chief Galen Morrison. He said the cause is undetermined. Fire officials were still trying to make contact with the owner.

About 40 firefighters from Gray, New Gloucester, Cumberland and Raymond responded, bringing tankers with water to help douse the flames.

Firefighters had the blaze under control by 7 p.m. but were at the scene until 11 p.m. making sure all areas of the fire were out.
