Jay police say two men, one of whom disguised his face with what appears to be a gas mask, broke into a home on Farrington Road late Sunday, tied up the homeowner and stole his coin collection, wallet and cellphone.

Police are asking for the public’s help after obtaining still images of the suspects, which were photographed by a camera mounted inside the home.

Detective Mike Mejia, in a news release, said the 75-year-old man was awakened about 11:59 p.m. when he realized that two individuals were standing in his bedroom.

The intruders tied the victim’s hands behind his back with packaging tape and made him lie face-down on his bed. One of the men mentioned that he had a gun, Mejia said.

Police said the suspects stole a large portion of the man’s coin collection. They fled the home and caught a ride with a third individual.

The homeowner freed himself and called 911. He was not hurt.

Anyone who can identify the suspects or has information about the home invasion is encouraged to contact the Jay Police Department at 897-6766.

Evidence collected from the crime scene was sent to the Maine State Police crime lab.
